Confidentiality

Tara provides a confidential service. This means that your information is secure and is not available to anyone else.

Confidentiality and Its Limits

Your privacy is very important, and all information you share in therapy will be kept confidential. However, there are specific situations where I may be legally or ethically required to share information without your consent. These include:

  • If I believe you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or another person.
  • If I suspect abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child, vulnerable adult, or elder.
  • If I am required to comply with a valid court order or other legal mandate.
  • If disclosure is necessary to prevent a serious threat to public safety.

Notes

Therapists and Counsellors are ethically required to keep client records.

Your record will contain the personal details you forward on the intake form.

I use a 'SOAP' system to record session notes.

I record the themes that have been discussed in your session e.g family of origin, relationships, workplace, health changes.

What should I expect on my first session?

A warm welcome and an invitation to talk about why you are seeking support at this time.

How many sessions do I need?

This depends on the issue you need support with and the  outcome(s) you are hoping to achieve.

Counselling and Psychotherapy can both be short term (6-12 weeks) or long term (unlimited/open).

In general, a CBT counselling approach (Depression and Anxiety) is usually 6 to 10 weeks duration.
